President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday assured that despite the challenges facing the country, Nigeria will get to its Promised Land the same way the Biblical children of Israel did.‬‬

‪‪Jonathan who stated this at a church service he attended at Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel at Goshen City, Nasarawa State, likened the Nigerian situation to that of the Super Eagles who came from three nil down to defeat their Moroccan counterparts in the quarter finals of the CHAN African championship in South Africa.

“Those of you who watched that match saw that it was not easy at the beginning, it was as if Nigeria would be demolished, but  all of a sudden, the young men came very strong and we won. That is how it will be with the story of this country,” Jonathan said.

‪‪He urged Bishop David Abioye to continue to pray for the country, as there was no alternative to the power of prayers.

“With your prayers and commitment, we will get to the destination. The Promised Land has never been an easy one for any nation; it was not easy for the Israelites and I promise that my colleagues and I will continue to do what is right for this country.‬‬

‪Admitting that as mere mortals, there could be errors here and there in running the affairs of the country, Jonathan said his government was committed to doing what is right at all time‬‬s.

Bishop Abioye commended Jonathan for signing the anti-gay bill into law, saying the decision taken by the president on same sex marriage was a decision in defence of the church, as well as a decision in the morality of the nation that protects the culture of the black race.‬‬

In the same vein, the Voice of Women in Nigeria (VOWN) applauded Jonathan for his gender sensitive policy, which it said informed the decision by the president to sign the anti-same sex marriage bill into law.

National president of the women group, Mrs. Beatrice Monyen said the president’s courage to defy pressure by european communities and embrace the reality of nature was a demonstration of a leader who was prepared to draw his people closer to God.
