Vagabond gets 4-hour community service for extortion

A 24-year-old man believed to be a vagabond, Muyideen Sumonu, was on Friday in Lagos sentenced to a four-hour community service after pleading guilty to intent to steal at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.

The accused was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, intent to commit felony and intent to steal.

Th Magistrate, Salama Matepo, said the court had no option than to sentence the accused since he had admitted committing the offences.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 26 on Lekki-Epe Expressway at Ajah Roundabout.

He alleged that the accused with others still at large barricaded the road with a big log with an intent to extort commuters.

“The accused was later apprehended by an anti-crime patrol team and taken to the police station.”

Ighodalo said the offences contravened Sections 299, 310 and 409 of the Criminal Lawof Lagos State, 2014. (NAN)
