he Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday alleged that the insurgency in the northern part of the country is being sponsored to discredit President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Olisa Metuh.

It said that the tactics was to distract the Jonathan from his Transformation Agenda and portray him as a non-performing President.

The essence, it is claimed, was to “finally ridicule his score card when time reckons.

“When we studied the trend of the spate of insurgency and sectarian violence in the country, the PDP submitted that these acts of terrorism were being sponsored by unpatriotic elements.

“Their aim to our study was to discredit the person, office and administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.”

The statement further declared that it was clear that President Jonathan was being persecuted for being a Nigerian from the minority.

It argued that no leader in the history of the country had faced the height of persecution that the president has been subjected to since he assumed office.

“Ironically, this is in spite of his humility and his fidelity to the orthodoxy of all democratic norms and values.

“This is in spite of his proven commitment to the unity and progress of every part of Nigeria, irrespective of tribe and religion…”

The statement commended President Jonathan for effectively containing the insurgency and beating down distractions and detractions.

It also applauded the president for his “unprecedented landmark achievements” in all sectors of the economy since he assumed office.

The party called on all well meaning Nigerians to resist those behind the sectarian violence and insurgency in the country.
