AWKA — Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Hyginus Omeje, has called for the establishment of more centres in the state for processing of the National Drivers’ licences.
Speaking in an interview in Awka, Wednesday, Omeje said the existing two centres were inadequate for effective coverage of the state.
It was observed that those who applied for either the renewal of drivers’ licences or fresh ones in the state, were facing a lot of frustrations because of the delay in processing and issuing them with temporary licences.
Also, those whose temporary licences expired since November last year were yet to get their permanent licences, which the FRSC attributed to the problem of network in the system.
Worried by the delays, Omeje said: “We have two centres in Amawbia, and the number of people coming to process their licenses on daily basis is so much that we can no longer cope.
“We have therefore made a request to our national headquarters in Abuja to approve more centers for us and hopefully it will be granted.
“We are appealing to the people to be patient as the problems will soon be resolved to enable us serve the people better.”
He explained that the state command had issued a total of 1693 drivers’ licenses from January to February this year which, he stated, was far more than the demand for the same period last year.
