Pending a resolution of the brewing controversy over the emergence of Ayo Fayose as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election, some PDP leaders and aspirants in the state will either defect to the opposition parties or work for the opposition party.
This was disclosed yesterday by Senator Gbenga Aluko, who emerged consensus candidate of the other aspirants last Friday after the 13 other aspirants endorsed him through a peer rating arrangement which he likened to the process that produces Catholic Popes. He also disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan will be the biggest loser if the PDP loses Ekiti as it will pave way for the loss of Osun State.
The national chairman of PDP, Dr Adamu Mu’azu last week while presenting Fayose the certificate of return as flag bearer of the PDP, urged all members of the party in the state to remain united and forge a common course. Fayose also pleaded with members to work with him, noting that he would protect the interest of all members of the party.
But Aluko, at a press briefing yesterday said the 13 aspirants have agreed to forward his name to President Goodluck Jonathan as a replacement for Ayo Fayose ahead of the June 21 election.
