WArri — A least  7,000 youths and the elderly at the early hours of yesterday protested on the streets of Warri, Delta State, demanding  the release of their son, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, by the London Court since they lack evidence against him.

They carried placards with inscriptions: ‘Judge Pitts release Ibori for lack of evidence’; ‘We want our son back’, ‘You cannot keep our Ibori there when you lack evidence’, ‘Our son is innocent.’

In a chat, one of the leaders of the protesters, Dr. Joseph Eromosere, a media analyst said: “The decision of the London court goes against the grain of legal procedures and ominous because it reinforces the believe in some quarters that Ibori had been targeted for jail by hook or crook by the British authorities for reason yet unknown.”

Eromosere further urged the London court to release Ibori based on lack of good evidence to prove their case against him, in the case which will be coming up soon

Another protester, Chief Gabriel Efeduku, said: “The procedure being adopted by the British court smacks of working from answer to question.

“What further gives us serious thought is that the credibility and the internationally recognised and applauded British judiciary is being showcased to the world as not being above human manipulation.”
