Nigerians have been urged to sustain the campaign for the release of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in April. The founder of Foundation for World Peace, Archbishop Samson Mustapha Benjamin gave the charge in an interview with journalists in Lagos.
The cleric reasoned that a sustained campaign might influence the terrorists to have pity on the girls and release them unconditionally.
“The girls and their parents are going through some psychological trauma; these campaigns will help lesson the burden on them. I agitate for more peaceful campaigns,” he said.
Besides, he noted that religious leaders in the country were also praying fervently for the release of the schoolgirls.
Archbishop Benjamin expressed optimism that with the support of the international community and local efforts, the girls will breath the air of freedom soon.
“With the support of Britain, France, America and other members of the international community and our collective effort, I am confident the girls will be released soon.
“You can see for the first time that the villagers have decided to join hands to fight these people. Right now, I will tell all the parents of the girls that it’s not their pain alone, it is the pain of everyone of us,” he stated.
The cleric, who said that the Federal Government and the security agencies were doing their best to tackle the security situation in the country, admonished Nigerians to complement the efforts of the government.
He was optimistic that given the support of the international community and the collective effort of Nigerians, the reign of terror by Boko Haram insurgents will end soon.
“There is hope to save the girls, the foreign aid will end this insurgency which I know will happen very soon. I will assure every one that all we have to do is to have collective effort against these terrorists to get them out,” he stated.
