The Chairman of the Borno State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Titus Pona, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to station a military garrison in Chibok in order to stem the tide of recurring insurgency in the area.

In an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Monday, Pona also raised the alarm on looming famine in the area as a result of the inability of the members of the agrarian community to cultivate their farms.

Pona, who hails from Chibok, said no matter the criticism that had trailed the fight against insurgency by the Nigerian military, it was important that a military garrison was stationed permanently in Chibok to forestall the perennial attack on the community.

The dreaded Islamic insurgent group, Boko Haram had invaded the Government Secondary School, Chibok, on April 14 and abducted more than 200 students who had remained missing till date.

The Chibok community had subsequently been attacked severally, including a takeover of the town last week until it was recaptured by the Nigerian military on Saturday.

Pona said the geographical location of Chibok as well as its socio-cultural composition makes it an easy prey to the insurgent group.
