The Niger State Government has written President Goodluck Jonathan informing him of its discovery of oil and gas deposit in the Bida basin, an area in the state.
The letter was personally signed by the state governor, Babangida Aliyu.
Details of the letter was not immediately known but the Presidency was said to have acknowledged receipt of the letter.
The Niger State Government about two years ago commissioned the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai and some experts to study the Bida basin with the sole objective of determining if the hydro deposit in the area was in commercial quantity.
The committee had since turned in a report resulting in the state government engaging other states in the funding of exploring the deposits.
Commissioner for Mining and Mineral Resources, Alhaji Abdulkhadir Jibrin, who said this in Minna on Tuesday after the state weekly executive council meeting, explained that the ministry also wrote to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources intimating with the discovery.
He added, that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources said it required the acknowledgment of the Presidency before acting on the matter.
