A former Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Jonah Madugu, has faulted the position of a northern elder, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, on the question of who emerges Nigeria’s President in 2015.
He described Abdullahi as a lone ranger, with no mandate from the northern elders to speak on their behalf on the 2015 presidential project.
Rather, he said he agreed with the position of another northern elder, Prof. Abba Gana, who advised that President Goodluck Jonathan should be allowed another term of four years in office.
Abdullahi was recently quoted as calling on the Peoples Democratic Party and the newly registered All Progressives Congress to present northern presidential candidates in the 2015 presidential election.
Madugu, in a statement in Jos on Monday, however, said not only was such sentiments undemocratic, but they portrayed Abdulallhi as naive of in political workings.
He said as a northern elder and a strong member of the PDP, he was in the know of the fact that nobody appointed Abdullahi as a spokesman for northern interest.
