KANO—Kano State Government yesterday dismissed speculations making the rounds that it had become bankrupt.
Finance Commissioner, Alhaji Mahmud Gaya who made this known said the state government had not in way failed in its obligations to either pay its workers or the numerous contractors handling various projects across the state.
He also said that the “Kano State Government has no reason or intention to approach any bank for loan to finance any of its projects. We have enough to rely on.”
His words: “It is a lie. Kano State is not broke, neither is it bankrupt. We have been faithful to our obligations. We have been paying our contractors, and our civil servants are happy with us because we have never defaulted in the payment of their salaries.
“There are acceptable and conventional standards or indices employed to measure the state of finance as to whether its healthy or otherwise.”
