President Goodluck Jonathan Sunday said but for the power of prayers, the challenges facing the nation would have overwhelmed it.

In this wise, he said the contributions of Christians in tackling the challenges through prayers was commendable.

The president spoke during a service  at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja.
He said he was confident that the challenges facing the nation would be overcome, and its potential realised through prayers and support from the church.

Jonathan stressed that negative things happening around the world were not peculiar to Nigeria, noting that the case of  the country would have been worse but for prayers and spiritual support from pastors and Christians.

“If you watch television, both local and foreign, we always have negative news as breaking news. We have our fair share of those negative news  but your prayers have been helping, if not for your prayers, it would  have been worse. We will get over our challenges. I urge you to continue to pray for the nation,” the president said.

He thanked the officiating pastor, Dr Paul Enenche, for his unflinching support and prayers for his administration and the country.

He called on Dunamis family and Christians not to rest on their oars in praying for the nation.
“I thank the pastor and his wife for their spiritual work to this nation.  Scientific way of healing is not always enough, we need spiritual healing too. Even after any major operation, you are told to come for  periodic check up, may be every three  months because medical or scientific help is not always complete.  Spiritual help is total.

“So, I thank the pastor and the church on behalf of the country. The happiest people in the world are not the ones with big names,” Jonathan stressed.

He charged the congregation to use their wealth and position in serving God.
The president disclosed to the congregation that he had resolved to use the last Sunday of every month to go round different churches in Abuja, with a view to  fraternising with other Christians, as well as  appreciating them for their prayers.

Enenche prayed that God should grant Jonathan the wisdom to enable him  take ‘rugged’ decisions at the right time with the fear of God and rule of law, no matter whose ox is gored.
The clergy also prayed for divine  protection and guidance for the president and his cabinet.
He equally prayed against war or destruction in 2015 election.
