A delegate to the ongoing National Conference holding, Otunba Gani Adams, has accused some South-West delegates of opposing key issues promoted by the region.
Adams, who said this while addressing newsmen in Lagos, expressed worries that realising the Yoruba agenda may be difficult.
According to Adams, about 45 per cent of delegates from the South-West do not believe in the Yoruba Agenda, noting that he had to practically go on his kneels to beg the affected delegates to push for the Yoruba Agenda at the conference.
The National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, stated that those opposed to agenda, were interested in retention of the status quo.
He disclosed that Lagos delegates were even opposed to regionalism in spite of the fact that “part of resources from the Western Region was used to develop the state in the past.
Why is it now that most of the resources are in Lagos State that delegates from Lagos are saying they came with Lagos Agenda and they don’t want regionalism that they don’t want to go back to Ibadan to take directives?”
“But I am saying that they don’t have to go to Ibadan to take any order, it is not compulsory that they go to Ibadan any more. We can use Lagos State as capital of Western Region. So why are we trying to short change ourselves?”
