Sultan wants more funding for police

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday, called for improved funding of the Nigeria Police to enable it confront the current security challenges effectively.

Abubakar spoke when the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 10, Sokoto, Alhaji Bala Hassan, paid him a courtesy call.

He said that a well-equipped police would ensure peace, progress and political stability in the nation.

He said that the Sultanate would continue to sensitise the people on the need to be security conscious.

“The  Sultanate will continue to assist the police to holistically confront any security threats across the country,” he added.

The Sultan also commended officers and men of the Nigeria police in the zone for sustaining peace in the area.

Earlier, Hassan had informed the Sultan that new security approach that would enable residents to contribute toward community policing had been introduced in the zone.

Hassan said that effective and well-coordinated community policing would enable all and sundry to offer intelligence reports to the police.

He explained that the officers and men in the zone would continue to be proactive in tackling security threats.

The AIG commended the Sultan for working hard in promoting peaceful co-existence in the country and beyond.
